Aegyptius

Aegyptius is attested within the epic/homeric social world as an Elder of Ithaca during Odysseus' prolonged absence after the Trojan War. He appears in the assembly scene of Odyssey Book 2 as a senior household figure and is named in mythographic summaries and indices as the father of Antiphus (the Antiphus who sailed from Troy with Odysseus and was later killed by the Cyclops). The name survives in the Homeric corpus as a personal name identical in form to the ethnonym for Egypt in Greek and Latin, but the sources provide no etiological link tying the character to the place-name or explaining why he bears that name.

Primary sources do not give a physical description of Aegyptius; he is characterized by social status and age. Ancient summaries and reading aids describe him as "an old lord" and as one of the Elders of Ithaca, emphasizing his role as a senior, respected voice in the household assembly rather than corporeal detail.
