Alegenor

In the genealogical accounts preserved in the Greek epic and historiographic traditions, Alegenor is presented as a member of a Boeotian family line: son of Itonus and grandson of Boeotus. Diodorus of Sicily (as preserved in summaries of mythic genealogies) lists Itonus as fathering four sons — Hippalcimus, Electryon, Archilycus, and Alegenor — and records that Alegenor begat Clonius (and by corollary Promachus in other sources). Homeric epic tradition does not narrate deeds of Alegenor himself but invokes his patronymic when identifying his son Promachus among the warriors whose fate is lamented in the Trojan cycle (Iliad, Book 14). The surviving attestations therefore place Alegenor within the Boeotian aristocratic/leadership kin-group that supplied named leaders to the Greek expedition against Troy.
