The first Arrowette is Bonnie King, introduced as 'Miss Arrowette' in World's Finest Comics #113 (cover dated November 1960). Bonnie adopted a costumed archer persona and at times sought publicity and sidekick opportunities (notably pestering Green Arrow). Bonnie trained her daughter Suzanne 'Cissie' King-Jones in archery and pushed her into a version of her old costume; that parental pressure led to child-welfare intervention and Cissie's temporary removal to the Elias School for Girls. Cissie later becomes Arrowette in her own right, joins Young Justice for a period, and after traumatic events (including the murder of a trusted school therapist and nearly killing a killer before being stopped by Superboy) vows to abandon the Arrowette identity; in later continuities Cissie attains Olympic gold in longbow competition and makes brief returns to costumed activity.
Depictions vary by era. Bonnie King is presented in Silver Age stories as 'Miss Arrowette' in a mid-20th-century costumed archer outfit. Cissie's early Arrowette costume is described as a frilly outfit with a bejeweled mask that echoes her mother's costume. In a later, brief return to Young Justice she is depicted wearing a red hooded costume. The central props across depictions are archery equipment (a longbow and related gear); Cissie is a young woman/adolescent figure, while Bonnie is an adult.
Arrowette is a human heroic persona whose noted skills are exceptional marksmanship with the longbow and trained combat ability rather than supernatural powers. Bonnie King was an Olympic bronze medallist in archery in her era of the comics; Suzanne 'Cissie' King-Jones is described in sources as an Olympic gold-medalist longbow marksman. Cissie is also described as having above-average strength, stamina, and agility for her age, above-average intelligence, and proficiency in hand-to-hand combat styles including judo, jeet kune do, and kickboxing. Behaviorally she functions as a public performer and celebrity figure at times, a team member (Young Justice), and as an emotionally driven actor who can respond violently to trauma.
