Introduced in The Spectacular Spider-Man #178 (July 1991) as a psychiatrist at the Ravencroft Institute, Ashley Kafka founded and ran the maximum-security sanitarium for the criminally insane and acted as an ally to Spider-Man. She was killed (noted in sources as killed by the criminal Massacre) and subsequently reanimated twice in cloned bodies via Ben Reilly's cloning method and later by Norman Osborn; during later events she was magically corrupted by Osborn's extracted 'sins' and became the Queen Goblin, first appearing in that form in The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 5) #88 (February 2022).
As presented in canonical sources, Ashley Kafka originally appears as a human psychiatrist and professional associated with Ravencroft. After her second reanimation and corruption by Norman Osborn's 'sins' she assumes the Queen Goblin persona: a red-skinned, goblin-like appearance and Goblin-themed attire and equipment. In that form she utilises Goblin technology such as a Goblin Glider and a Pumpkin Scepter (the latter shown to have blast capability and a chain/retractable function).
Before her death Kafka's documented abilities are professional: psychiatric expertise, institution founding and administration, and therapeutic work with criminally insane patients and figures in the Spider-Man mythos. After reanimation and transformation into Queen Goblin she gains enhanced strength, speed, durability, and a healing factor; she also manifests a psychic/metaphysical effect called the 'Goblin Gaze' that causes those struck by it to relive their trauma. She employs Goblin-themed technology (Goblin Glider; Pumpkin Scepter with explosive blasts and a chain/retractable mode). Narrative behaviours in sources show her breaking restraints, killing technicians after corruption, attempting to drain or manipulate 'sins', allying with figures such as Kraven the Hunter, and engaging in violent confrontations with Spider-Man and Norman Osborn.
Weaknesses
- conditionvulnerability to physical destruction / mortal injury (killed in conflicts; at one point Norman Osborn kills Queen Goblin in self-defense)
- otherdependency on narrative/plot devices (reanimation and power continuity are tied to cloning technology and infusion of Osborn's 'sins')
