Baron Brimstone (Walther Theodoric) is a Marvel Comics criminal who combines technological devices with occult-styled powers and theatrical satanic branding to run organized criminal enterprises. He founded and led the Satan Squad, committed thefts and arms-dealing schemes (notably stealing the Sol-Mac), and repeatedly confronted superheroes before being arrested, imprisoned, and in one storyline sent to Hell.

Origin

Created for Marvel Comics, Baron Brimstone first appears in Machine Man #16 (August 1980). Presented as a human criminal entrepreneur, he stole the Sol-Mac — a solar-powered microwave-emission device — from the Chem-Solar Corporation intending to mass-produce it as a weapon and sell it to underworld clients. He organized the Satan Squad to gather parts and operatives for his plots, ordered kidnappings and violence through lieutenants, and was repeatedly opposed, captured, and imprisoned by superheroes (Machine Man, Spider-Man, Paladin, the Wasp, Heroes for Hire). He later appears in storylines including Marvel Team-Up #99, The Avengers #251 (Acts of Vengeance era pairings) and Fantastic Four #336; a later summary notes he was "sent to Hell" following involvement in an arms racket.

Appearance

Published descriptions and fan-character files depict him variably; a SpiderFan character entry lists green eyes, red hair and beard, a single large red "cyclops eyebrow" across his forehead, height 5'10" and weight 180 lbs. Comic depictions vary by issue and panel style, and no single standardized costume or definitive visual dossier is established in the supplied sources.

Abilities

Within narratives he uses a mixture of technological devices and powers described as magical or occult-styled. Documented acts include stealing the Sol-Mac, organizing and directing violent criminal operations via his Satan Squad, and hypnotizing a prison guard to secure his escape from Riker's Island in one account. A fan-source character sheet also attributes the ability to build a teleport machine to him; this specific technical claim appears only in that fan entry. Overall he functions as a human antagonist whose tools and theatrics create threats that heroes counter and who is routinely defeated and imprisoned.
