Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew!

Within DC's pre-Crisis multiverse continuity, Superman attempted to reach Earth‑C and in the process grabbed a meteor that was shunted through the dimensional barrier; both he and the meteor were carried into Earth‑C. Fragments of that meteor struck certain Earth‑C residents, who subsequently gained superpowers. When the world suffered a de-evolution assault launched by Starro the Conqueror from Pluto, Superman and the newly powered animal heroes teamed to defeat the threat — an event that established the Zoo Crew as a superhero team.

As published, the Zoo Crew are depicted in comic-art form as anthropomorphized, talking animals wearing superhero costumes. Earth‑C is rendered as a parody of the human world populated by animal analogues and punning place-names (examples cited in sources include Follywood, Califurnia, Gnu York, Tallahatchee, Loondon) and animalized historical figures and monuments (for example, President Abraham Linkidd and the Linkidd Memorial).

Members of Earth‑C (including future Zoo Crew members) gained superpowers after being struck by meteor fragments in the origin sequence. The series frames them as conventional comic-book superheroes whose powers derive from that event. Behaviorally, the published run documents the team's development: they initially had considerable difficulty coordinating in combat, often pairing inefficiently, but over time persevered and developed tactics to become a coherent fighting force. The characters have interacted with mainstream DC figures (notably Superman in their origin) and later appeared in Teen Titans (vol. 3 #30–31, 2005–2006) and the miniseries Captain Carrot and the Final Ark (2007).
