Cybernary is a fictional comic-book character and the title of a WildStorm series; presented as a cybernetically enhanced human whose body and systems carry or host other consciousnesses. Originating in 1990s American comics, Cybernary functions as a cybernetic anti‑heroine and narrative construct within post‑apocalyptic / cyberpunk superhero fiction.

Origin

Created as a backup feature in Jim Lee's Deathblow series and developed into a 1995 mini-series by artist Nick Manabat and writer Steve Gerber, Cybernary is presented in-universe as a human whose body is fitted with lethal cybernetic systems. The initial carrier associated with the Cybernary identity is Katrina Cupertino; within the original stories Katrina's mind contains the consciousness of Yamiko (daughter of Kaizen Gamorra). In later/DC Black Label materials the name 'Katrina Cupertino' is described as a codename for the Cybernary cybernetic system and the cybernetics may be transferred between bodies (for example into Yumiko Gamorra).

Appearance

Sources describe Cybernary as an outwardly sexualized, heavily engineered cyborg figure — one summary states that 'her outside looks like a very carefully made nympho-droid, her insides are built for killing.' Visual depictions across continuities emphasize cybernetic augmentations and costuming; later post-World's End depictions note restored cyborg additions and distinctive elements (for example antler-like features) tied to her costume. Exact panel-level visual details vary between series and reboots.

Abilities

Documented elements in the sources indicate Cybernary possesses extensive cybernetic combat enhancements (her internal systems are described as built for killing). Prior to augmentation, Katrina is said to have had low-level telepathy; the Cybernary identity is narratively complicated by the presence of Yamiko Gamorra's consciousness within Katrina (a dual-persona/embedded-consciousness situation). Functionally within stories she operates as an anti-hero/operative: fighting alongside other heroes (e.g., Savant Garde), serving as an instrument of political figures (Kaizen Gamorra), and undertaking missions that include combat, capture, and interrogation. Different continuities alter motivations and the mechanics of the cybernetic system (including transferability of the system in DC Black Label material).
