Created by Len Wein and Dave Gibbons for DC Comics, the Demolition Team debuted in Green Lantern #176 (May 1984) as a contracted group of specialists hired (in their first appearance) by Congressman Jason Bloch to destroy the Los Angeles branch of Ferris Aircraft. They are a manufactured, professional crew rather than supernatural beings and recur across DC storylines including The OMAC Project and Infinite Crisis.
The group consists of five named operatives drawn from occupational backgrounds and outfitted with signature demolition equipment: Hardhat (a former boxer with a powered helmet and harness), Jackhammer (a former oil-rig worker who carries a large jackhammer), Rosie (the leader who wields a rapid-fire hot rivet gun), Scoopshovel (a former jai-alai player with a hydraulic power-arm for excavation), and Steamroller (a former motorcycle stunt rider who operates a compact steamroller). Media adaptations have varied portrayals—Arrow depicts some members as mundane demolition workers using ordinary tools, while Teen Titans features an android version of Steamroller.
Their capabilities derive from specialized, technological equipment and occupational skills: heavy-construction demolition (jackhammering, steamrolling, rivet-gun assault, hydraulic excavation) and powered-armor-enhanced battering. They function tactically as hired mercenaries to destroy buildings or facilities, engage in armed conflict with protagonists, and can be overmatched or defeated by superheroes or large-scale techno-threats (e.g., OMACs). Any cybernetic or mechanized elements are narrative/technological rather than supernatural.
