Fodbgen

Fodbgen is presented in regnal sequences as a son of Sengann of the Fir Bolg who became High King after overthrowing his cousin Rinnal son of Genann. Medieval compilations situate him within the sequence of Fir Bolg rulers that populate Ireland's mythic past; an aetiological note in the tradition links his era to the origin of knots in trees (Old Irish odb).

The surviving regnal notices and summaries provide no physical description of Fodbgen himself. Sources record actions, succession, and portentous conditions during his reign rather than bodily appearance, garments, or features.

Fodbgen is not described as possessing supernatural powers in the cited material. His recorded behavior in the regnal tradition is political and martial: he overthrew his cousin Rinnal to become High King, reigned four years, and was subsequently defeated and killed by Eochaid mac Erc at Magh Muirthemne. His reign is associated with conventional regnal notices about natural conditions (an absence of 'wetting' save dew and that knots began to appear in trees).
