Huecuva

Lesserwell-documentedtabletop role-playing game bestiary tradition (Fiend Folio, Pathfinder, D&D conversions)

A fictional undead monster attested in Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder bestiaries, depicted as the reanimated corpses of former religious practitioners who violated vows or embraced heresy. Bestiary entries describe it as a robed, decaying corpse with abilities and auras tied to the corruption of faith.

Origin

In published role-playing bestiaries the huecuva is presented as an undead creature created from clerics, druids, paladins, or monks who have failed in their vows; as punishment for heresy or broken oaths they are doomed to undeath. The entity appears in older Fiend Folio/AD&D materials and in later conversions and bestiary entries for Pathfinder and D&D 3rd/5th-edition lines.

Appearance

Bestiary descriptions portray the huecuva as a robed, decaying corpse — rotting vestments hanging across withered flesh, often rendered as a robed skeleton whose mouth hangs open in a silent scream. Variants across editions emphasize tattered religious garments and skeletal or partially skeletal anatomy.

Abilities

Game statblocks and summaries place huecuva in the undead category with typical undead traits and edition-specific mechanics. Documented abilities include darkvision and an aura termed "faithlessness" (noted with a 30-foot radius in some entries). Older/Fiend Folio summaries record edition-specific powers such as the ability to polymorph self multiple times per day and a touch that conveys a debilitating supernatural affliction (text of the disease is incomplete in the excerpts). Modern conversion entries (5e/third-party SRD conversions) portray the creature as Chaotic Evil in some stat translations and assign social-skill bonuses (Deception, Intimidation), reflecting its role as a malign, manipulative undead antagonist.
