Ischepolis

Minor Spiritwell-documentedGreek heroic mythMegarian local traditionMegaraCalydon (Aetolia)
Origin

Ischepolis is attested in genealogical and local traditions as a son of Alcathous of Megara. Sources vary over the maternal attribution for Alcathous's children (Pyrgo or Euaechme appear in different accounts). He is named alongside siblings variously listed in lexica and local histories (including Callipolis and variant-name siblings such as Echepolis; other children like Iphinoe, Periboea, and Automedusa appear in related lists). Within the wider heroic cycle he joined the company assembled to hunt the Calydonian boar during the generation before the Trojan War.

Appearance

No physical or iconographic description of Ischepolis survives in the cited sources; he is known only by name, genealogical placement, narrative role as a participant in the Calydonian boar hunt, and by a Megarian burial claim (Pausanias reports that Ischepolis was said to be buried in the prytaneum at Megara).

Abilities

The sources record no supernatural abilities or special feats for Ischepolis. His recorded action is participation in the Calydonian boar hunt, and his fate is that he was killed by the boar. He functions in the sources as a mortal prince/hunter whose death is part of the catalogue of casualties of that expedition.
