Origin

In Japanese belief, any creature can become yokai if it lives long enough. The golden orb-weaver (Nephila) at 400 years transforms into a Jorogumo, taking human form to feed on young men. Classic tales set her in the mountains of Nagano at Jōren Falls.

Appearance

In her false form, a beautiful woman, often playing a biwa (lute). In her true form, a massive spider with a human face. She can extrude silk that looks like fine robes or rope.

Abilities

Shapeshifts into a beautiful woman. Binds victims in webs that are invisible until it is too late. Controls lesser spiders. Her bite paralyzes. Can walk on the surface of water.
