Leraie is transmitted through medieval and early modern Western grimoire listings (notably the Lesser Key of Solomon / Ars Goetia, the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum lineage, Rudd's variant attributions, and later compilations). The figure emerges from the textual, hierarchical cataloguing of named spirits typical of these manuscripts: presented as a titled officer ('Marquis' or 'Marquis Great in Power') within an infernal / spirit polity, sometimes given a specific placement number (fourteenth in some Lesser Key listings; thirteenth in Pseudomonarchia Daemonum variants) and in at least one manuscript tradition (the Grand Grimoire) listed subordinate to the spirit Sargatanas (under the forms Loray or Zoray).
Across the grimoire summaries Leraie is consistently described as appearing in the likeness of an archer: a gallant or handsome figure clad in green, bearing a bow and a quiver of arrows. This archer iconography is the principal identifying trait in the available accounts.
Grimoire sources attribute to Leraie the causing of 'all great battles and contests' or 'great battles and disputes'; the making of arrow-wounds to putrefy or become gangrenous; the power to bring a lover to someone or to send a lover away; and, in Johann Weyer / De Plancy renderings, the ability to drive away mobs or groups. He is said to command numerous subordinate spirits (most sources record thirty legions; some summaries list thirty-three). In Rudd's angelic-opposition scheme Leraie is counterbalanced by the Shemhamphorasch angel Mehahel.

- otheropposition by the Shemhamphorasch angel Mehahel (specific to Rudd tradition)
