Ammit (Ammut)

In ancient Egyptian tradition, Ammit was a creature created to serve as a devourer of the unworthy dead in the afterlife. Its name is derived from the Egyptian words 'im,' meaning 'to devour,' and 'mut,' possibly referring to the creature's association with consumption.

Ammit has the body of a lion, the head of a crocodile, and the hindquarters of a hippopotamus.

As a guardian of Ma'at, Ammit is tasked with devouring those who are deemed unfit for the afterlife. It serves as a manifestation of the principle of truth and balance in ancient Egyptian cosmology.
