Reepicheep is a fictional Talking Mouse in C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia. He is the martial chief of the Talking Mice, a courageous knightly figure who appears in Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and briefly in The Last Battle, whose personal quest for "Aslan's Country" functions as a spiritual exemplar within the Narnian narrative.

Origin

Reepicheep is a literary creation of C. S. Lewis and, within Narnian narrative, has been described as having been driven since infancy by a vision of finding "Aslan's Country" across the eastern sea. He is presented as one of the Talking Beasts of Narnia—a class of animals granted speech, reason, and social roles comparable to humans—rather than as a figure with a separate folkloric origin.

Appearance

Described as a "gay and martial mouse" standing about two feet high on his hind legs, Reepicheep has very dark, almost black fur and ears nearly as long as (though broader than) a rabbit's. He speaks in a shrill, piping voice. He is depicted wearing a thin circlet of gold on his head with a crimson feather and carries a rapier.

Abilities

As a Talking Beast he possesses human speech, reason, and social leadership. He is a skilled martial leader and fighter—leading the Talking Mice in battle—and embodies a personal code of honour, courtesy, and fearlessness. He is physically vulnerable (canonically wounded in Prince Caspian, losing his tail) and subject to healing by Lucy's magic cordial; his tail is miraculously restored by Aslan. His driving motivation is a spiritual quest to reach Aslan's Country, which he ultimately fulfills by volunteering to remain beyond the End of the World.
