The Haunting
Al-Uqair (also transliterated al-'Uqair, Uqayr, Ogair) is a coastal archaeological site on the Persian Gulf opposite the Al-Ahsa Oasis. It is considered one of the earliest seaports in the region and has been linked in scholarship and classical references to the ancient city of Gerrha. The site functioned historically as an important link for sea trade with Bahrain and as an entry point for inland caravan routes until the 1930s. In modern history, Al-Uqair is notable as the location associated with the 1922 Uqair Protocol, a diplomatic event important in establishing borders in the region. Presently the site is recognized for its ruins and archaeological significance.
