Bukit Larut (Maxwell Hill)

Bukit Larut (formerly Maxwell Hill) is a hill station and resort near the town of Taiping in the state of Perak, Malaysia. Established in 1884 by British colonial authorities as an observation point for tin-mining activity and as a retreat for colonial residents, it was originally named Maxwell Hill after administrator George Maxwell and renamed Bukit Larut in 1979. The site sits at roughly 1,250 m altitude in a region often described as extremely wet and verdant, and is connected to Taiping Lake Gardens by Jalan Bukit Larut (Federal Route 315). Travel and photography guides characterize the location as one of Malaysia's most well-preserved colonial hill stations and a popular highland destination.
