Clervaux Castle (Burg Clerf) is a medieval town-centre fortified compound in Clervaux, northern Luxembourg, with origins in the 12th century. Contemporary accounts attribute the oldest parts to Gerard (Gerhard), Count of Sponheim, and note later architectural developments including palace sections and rounded towers probably dating from around 1400. Built around a central courtyard with an outer wall and gatehouses, the castle suffered destructive fire damage during the Second World War, during the period of the Battle of the Bulge, and was subsequently rebuilt. Since reconstruction it has served civic and cultural functions, housing the commune's administrative offices and a museum that includes an exhibition of Edward Steichen's photography. The castle is a prominent regional heritage and tourist site and is described in travel and castle-focused sources as a significant Ardennes castle.
