The Fortress of Sagres (Fortaleza de Sagres) is a coastal promontory fortification on Sagres Point in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, Algarve. Traditionally attributed to the 15th century and to Infante Henry the Navigator, the site includes the Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça and a large compass rose feature (Rosa dos Ventos) within its enclosure. The fortress was heavily damaged in the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, rebuilt in the late 18th century, and underwent major renovations in the 20th century (1960s and 1990s) and again in 2010. It is widely described in travel guides and histories as an important landmark connected to Portuguese maritime exploration and a principal tourist attraction in Sagres. The supplied research materials contain no accounts of paranormal phenomena, supernatural entities, or hauntings associated with the fortress. All sources consulted focus on the site's architecture, historical associations with Henry the Navigator and the Age of Discovery, earthquake damage and subsequent reconstructions, and its contemporary role as a visitor site. Because the documentation examined does not report supernatural claims, no folkloric or paranormal narratives are presented in this entry.
