The Haunting
The Gamboa Rainforest Resort sits on a hillside above the Chagres River near its confluence with Gatun Lake and overlooks sections of the Panama Canal. Gamboa is a small town on the Chagres and functions as a hub for rainforest and canal-related tourism; the resort includes amenities such as a Canopy Tower, orchid nursery and butterfly sanctuary. The Chagres River is the largest river in the Panama Canal drainage basin and has been dammed to form the Gatun Lake and Lake Alajuela reservoirs, which are integral to canal operations. Travel guides and resort information describe boat trips up the Chagres, cruises on Gatun Lake, and the area's connection to the history and engineering of the canal.
