The Haunting

Gruta da Lapinha (Lapinha Cave) is a limestone cave located within Sumidouro State Park, anchored geographically to the Lagoa Santa karst region in the state of Minas Gerais. The broader park area is archaeologically significant: early 19th-century discoveries in Sumidouro include remains associated with some of the earliest human inhabitants of Brazil and bones of extinct megafauna; the cave lies within that same karst landscape and is described as the park's main attraction. Scientific activity at Gruta da Lapinha includes speleological and environmental work such as microclimate monitoring presented in conference proceedings, and the site is cited as a collection or type locality in botanical and zoological records. Tourist and travel sources present the cave as a local attraction accessible from Lagoa Santa and promoted for day trips from Belo Horizonte. The cave is managed as part of the state park and is referenced in both academic and travel literature.
