Hoffell / Hoffellsjökull

Hoffell is an agricultural and mountainous area in southeast Iceland that gives its name to the Hoffellsjökull glacier outlet. Geologically notable exposures of gabbro — rock formed deep in the Earth's crust and now visible due to uplift and glacial erosion — occur here. The area is partly contained within Vatnajökull National Park. In recent decades Hoffell has developed modest tourism infrastructure, including a guesthouse (Glacier World / Hoffell Guesthouse), marked hiking trails, a car park, a rough gravel access road to the Hoffellsjökull parking area, and naturally heated outdoor hot tubs. Hoffellsjökull and the Hoffell area feature in academic and management literature on glacier tourism and climate-change adaptation, reflecting both their environmental importance and role in regional tourism. The research materials provided contain no reports of paranormal phenomena, named supernatural entities, folklore-based hauntings, or other anomalous occurrences associated with Hoffell or Hoffellsjökull. All sourced descriptions concern physical geography, geology, tourism facilities, access conditions, and conservation status. Distances reported to the nearby town of Höfn/Hofn vary among sources (approximately 15–24 km or about 15 miles in some guides), and spellings of Icelandic names vary between anglicised and diacritic forms.
