Cimbres Marian apparition (Nossa Senhora das Graças)

According to local reports and devotional tradition, in August 1936 an appearance of the Virgin Mary occurred on a rocky inselberg near the homes of two illiterate adolescent girls, Maria da Luz (later Sister Adélia) and Maria da Conceição. The visions recurred through 1936 and into 1937. The site had a preexisting local Marian image historically venerated as Our Lady of the Mountains; the 1936–37 events became integrated into the area's sacred geography and later devotional life. Church authorities investigated and in 2021 recognized the supernatural character of the events and opened a beatification process for one of the seers (Sister Adélia), per the sources.

The apparitional figure is reported in sources as an appearance of the Virgin Mary under the title Nossa Senhora das Graças (Our Lady of Graces). The visions were experienced outdoors on an exposed inselberg — a rocky hill described as partially covered by thorny bushes and slippery moss and adjacent to deep gullies — rather than in an indoor shrine. The accounts focus on the identity and messages of the figure rather than on elaborate physical description of clothing or bodily features.

As reported by the seers and recorded by investigators, the apparition communicated prophetic warnings and devotional injunctions. Reported messages include warnings of "three great punishments," statements that "Communism will penetrate Brazil," forecasts that "the blood that will flood Brazil" (described as bloody punishment), and admonitions that "penance and prayer" and devotion "to the heart of Jesus and to my heart" were required. A contemporaneous miraculous sign reported in the sources is that potable water began to flow from the inselberg after the apparitions.
