G'nort is an alien native of the planet G'newt who, within DC Comics continuity, was recruited or otherwise came to wield a Green Lantern power ring and later a Darkstar power source. Introduced in Justice League International #10 (February 1988) by Keith Giffen and J. M. DeMatteis, the character functions as a recurring member of Corps-related narratives and Justice League teams; his publication history spans multiple eras of DC continuity and includes episodes in which his homeworld and family suffer in larger interstellar conflicts.
G'nort is depicted as an anthropomorphic doglike alien rendered in humanoid form. His design and personality were modeled by his creators after the television character Ed Norton, producing a visual and behavioral caricature that emphasizes canine features within a comic-book alien anatomy.
Within the comics G'nort can wield a Green Lantern power ring (and at times a Darkstar uniform/power source), granting him the standard ring-derived abilities demonstrated in stories (flight, energy constructs, self-rescue using ring power). He has also displayed an enhanced olfactory tracking ability (tracking a ring-taker by scent) consistent with his canine physiology. Narratively he is frequently incompetent and comic, yet repeatedly demonstrates bravery, loyalty, honor, and occasional decisive heroism, including overpowering foes, reclaiming rings, and saving allies in critical moments.
