Media adaptations freely mix these motifs (alien, meteor/rubber‑tree revival, and mutation) rather than a single canonical origin.

First appeared in Aliwan Komiks #56 (December 7, 1964) and is typically depicted as a lanky, elastic figure who can stretch and morph; costume designs have been reworked across media. Film and television portrayals have varied with actors and production eras — notable portrayals include Von Serna (1965 film), Vic Sotto (2003 film), Mark Bautista (2004 film), and Vhong Navarro (2007 TV series) — and often present a civilian identity (e.g., a physics professor) who transforms into the superheroic form.

Core powers documented across sources are extreme elasticity (stretching to great lengths) and shapeshifting into many imaginable forms. His behavior in narratives is that of a protector who uses these abilities to fight crime, defend people from injustice and oppression, and safeguard Filipino urban communities (frequently Manila). Different origin accounts attribute those powers to alien heritage, a meteor/rubber tree event, or mutation, but sources consistently describe elasticity and morphing as the central capabilities.
