Within the Street Fighter fictional continuity, Blanka was born human (named Jimmy in some accounts) and became altered following a plane crash in Brazil. Different versions/localizations of his backstory attribute his green coloration and electrical ability to varying causes: early material suggested chlorophyll from plant consumption, some U.S. localizations attributed his color to a lightning strike during the crash, and other in‑game explanations cite exposure to electric eels triggering a mutation. These narrative variants are part of game manuals, localization changes, and later retconning rather than a single mythic tradition.
Blanka is depicted with bright green skin (formerly described in early depictions as yellowish‑green and in early concepts as pink), long orange hair, and a feral, bestial posture and bearing. His visual design emphasizes non‑normative, wild traits—muscular, agile build, untamed hair, and an overall savage aesthetic—intended to contrast with more human characters in the roster.
In the game canon Blanka can generate and emit an electric current—his signature move involves crouching and discharging electricity that shocks opponents. He also uses rolling attacks in which he curls and launches himself as a projectile, exhibits enhanced agility and feral strength, and fights in a self‑taught, animalistic style. Behaviorally he growls and fights with animalistic motions but in many cutscenes retains some human traits such as limited speech and familial concern (notably for his mother).
