Coriakin

Within the Narnian cosmology presented in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Coriakin was "originally a star" who, as reparation for unspecified past misdeeds, was charged by Aslan to rule the Duffers and guide them to wisdom. Ramandu, another star, indicates that the precise faults of a star are not for mortals to know, placing Coriakin among personified celestial agents assigned remedial tasks in Narnia. His office is therefore both penitential and pedagogical: a celestial being executed in a worldly stewardship by Aslan's authority.

Coriakin is described in narrative summaries as appearing like a wizard: barefoot, wearing a red robe and a crown of oak leaves. He lives in a large house on an island in the eastern sea of Narnia—a mansion-like dwelling with multiple rooms and a top-floor chamber where he keeps a spellbook and other curious objects such as a "Bearded Glass."

Narrative incidents attribute to Coriakin several specific magical acts within the story: he casts a transformative spell that merges each Duffer's two legs into a single large leg (creating Monopods/Dufflepuds), he maintains a spellbook and magical objects in his household, and he provisions and entertains visitors (the text records him hosting a feast while himself taking only bread and wine). The Duffers' invisible-appearance episode is reversed in the story when Lucy reads the counter-spell; sources indicate the Duffers cast the invisibility that affected themselves and Coriakin, rather than establishing Coriakin as the routine practitioner of all those spells. The sources also describe him as patient, wise, humorous, and willing to submit to his penance while teaching his charges.
