Cyledr Wyllt

In the surviving account from the tale Culhwch and Olwen, Cyledr is a member of Gwythyr ap Greidawl's war-party that attacks Gwyn ap Nudd. After the conflict Cyledr is taken prisoner alongside his father Nwython; Gwyn ap Nudd murders Nwython and forces Cyledr to eat his father's heart. This extreme trauma drives Cyledr mad, earning him the epithet 'Wyllt' (the Wild). He is later found by Arthur, recovered from captivity, and takes part in Arthur's subsequent hunt for Twrch Trwyth.

The surviving sources do not provide a physical description of Cyledr. He is identified and characterized through his actions, relationships, and his epithet 'Wyllt' (the Wild/mad) rather than by details of stature, clothing, or other visual markers. The emphasis in the narrative is on his warrior role, his traumatic experience in captivity, and his resulting madness, not on bodily description.

The sources attribute no explicitly supernatural powers to Cyledr. His defining features in the tale are his status as a skilled warrior, his descent into madness after the forced cannibalism of his father's heart, and his practical role in narrative events — notably his successful retrieval of the shears from Twrch Trwyth during Arthur's hunt. While his madness is a marked, extraordinary condition, the texts present it as a consequence of trauma rather than as evidence of persistent magical abilities.
