Acionna

Acionna is known only from a single dedicatory stela recovered at the Fontaine de l'Étuvée in Orléans (found by Jollois in 1822). The inscription reads "AUG(ustae) ACIONNAE SACRUM CAPILLUS ILLIO MARI F(ilius) PORTICUM CUM SUIS ORNAMENTIS V(otum) S(olvit) L(ibens) M(erito)" (translated: "To August Acionna, Capillus son of Illiomarus [offered] this portico with these ornaments, in willing and right fulfillment of his vow") and is stylistically datable to the 2nd century CE. The form of the name with the ending -onna indicates a Latinized Gallic name; beyond the inscription and the archaeological context at the spring, no mythic genealogy or further literary attestations survive in the cited sources.

No iconography or pictorial representation of Acionna is preserved in the cited material and the sources give no physical description. The linguistic form of the name (ending -onna) is reported as "undisputably" indicating a Latinized Gallic name, but that fact does not supply any visual attributes.

Acionna is inferred to be a water-centered divine presence because the dedicatory stela was found in an ancient spring sanctuary (the Fontaine de l'Étuvée) and because her name may be related to local hydronyms (Axiona/Exona → Essonne; Esse/Ruisseau des Esses). Her cultic role is attested in the form of votive dedication (a portico and ornaments offered in fulfillment of a vow), consistent with spring/sanctuary deities receiving offerings and temple dedications, but specific miraculous or functional abilities are not documented.
