Deacon Frost

Created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, Deacon Frost first appears in The Tomb of Dracula #13 (October 1973). In comic continuity his backstory presents him as a figure with extensive scientific knowledge whose experiments and association with vampire blood produce his vampiric condition and ambitions; adaptations (1998 film, anime) rework his background to fit contemporary settings and organizational leadership roles.

Comic-era Frost is described as a tall, white-haired, late middle-aged gentleman with red eyes, sometimes depicted wearing 1860s German-style clothing; comics also present doppelgängers and alternate depictions. The 1998 film portrays Frost as a younger adult who dresses as a brash, modern nightclub-owning leader. Anime and other adaptations vary his look to match role (founder/leader of vampire organizations) rather than a single canonical appearance.

Across sources Frost displays standard Marvel-vampire attributes: superhuman strength and enhanced physical abilities, resistance to conventional wounds, the need to ingest blood, vulnerability to sunlight, aversion to reflective surfaces (absence from mirrors), and susceptibility to heart-piercing by wooden stakes and damage from religious symbols wielded by someone of deep faith. Distinctive to the comics, Frost can create vampiric duplicates by biting victims; these duplicates are under his absolute mind control, can be replicated further by biting them, and in some storylines can absorb the original victim into their bodies. He is also described in comics as possessing extensive scientific knowledge which he applies to vampiric experimentation and strategy.
