Bette Kane

Introduced in Batman #139 (April 1961) as Betty Kane, she was presented pre-Crisis as the niece of Kathy Kane (Batwoman) who adopted the Bat-Girl sidekick identity. After editorial continuity reworkings (notably post-Crisis retellings), she was reintroduced in Secret Origins Annual #3 (1989) as Mary Elizabeth "Bette" Kane, a Los Angeles debutante and former tennis prodigy who, inspired by Robin, trained in gymnastics and martial arts and later adopted the Flamebird alias to operate as an independent costumed heroine and member of West Coast teams such as Titans West and Titans L.A.

Pre-Crisis Betty Kane appeared as Bat-Girl, a Batwoman-associated sidekick costume (sources link her visually to Batwoman-derived sidekick design rather than exhaustively detailing specific elements).
