Commentators recorded the episode as folkloric panic with alternative secular readings (for example, mass hysteria or human predation) alongside the supernatural account; these explanations are reported interpretations rather than part of a single authoritative origin myth.

Sources do not fix a single corporeal form for Naale Baa; descriptions vary across tellings. The being is commonly described in broad terms as a "malevolent spirit," a witch, or in some variants a grieving female ghost searching for a husband. The legend emphasizes behavioral signs—knocking, calling names, imitating the voices of family members at doors—more than a consistent visual appearance. Variants therefore present Naale Baa more as an active, identity-mimicking presence than as a detailed bodily type.

Reported behaviors center on nocturnal approach to households and vocal impersonation. Naale Baa is said to roam at night, knock at doors, and call out the names of residents while imitating the voices of their kin; tradition holds that answering such a call can result in severe harm (accounts report death by vomiting blood or heart failure) or abduction—particularly of children or of the male head of household in variants where a female ghost seeks her husband. Folk belief also holds that a written inscription of the words "Naale Baa" on a door or wall will be read by the entity and cause it to postpone its visit until the following day, producing a repetitive deferral if the sign remains.
