Pariacaca (Parya Qaqa)

In the Huarochirí tradition Pariacaca is one of five sacred beings that originated when five eggs appeared on the summit of the sacred mountain Kuntur Quta; Pariacaca and his brothers hatched from those eggs. He is identified with the Pariacaca mountain range (Paryaqaqa/Parya Qaqa) and functions as its apu, a regional mountain god and cultural hero whose life and deeds form a central chapter of the Huarochirí Manuscript. Multiple versions of his mythic biography exist in local tradition.

Sources emphasize Pariacaca's ability to adopt human guise rather than a single consistent supernatural form: in one account he 'dressed as a beggar' and went down to a pueblo fiesta where only a compassionate woman noticed him. The tradition also preserves an egg-origin motif (five eggs on Kuntur Quta) that marks his nonstandard birth; beyond disguise episodes there is no detailed, consistent visual description in the cited materials.

Pariacaca is described as a god of storms who controls rain and can call down a flood (he warned a woman that floods would destroy everyone in five days and permitted her flight). He functions as a creator/hero figure and as an oracle advising his son Huathiacuri. He tests human hospitality while disguised, rewarding compassion and punishing neglect. In a divine contest he extinguished the fire god Wallallu Qarhwinchu's fireballs with rain, defeating and banishing that fire deity and protecting human communities.
